What! McDonald's wanted .19 Euro for a (large) packet of Ketchup! That is positively UnAmerican! How can you have fries with no ketchup!
Oh yeah, I am in Germany.

Does the food otherwise taste and look the same? Do they serve anything unusual, like Bier? Or, mayo or vinagrette with fries?
So, I catch up late, but...
Here in NZ it is more and so we had even 9 years back the you (pay!!) for ketchup (called "sauce" here) moment.
That said McDonalds ("Mackers" here) made it free for awhile in big pump things you put into small cups. People were taking huge amounts and smuggling it home!
So, no surprise... It is however free at any friterie just over your (far away) border with Belgium where fries (frites) are the national food...
